Blog # 5 Ansering the 3 questions (My last Entry)

1. Compared to writing traditional essays as you have in other classes, were the expectations of the blog assignment easier, harder or just different? In other words, was it clear to you what the format of a blog was and how to produce one?

A. The expectations originally, I thought would be much easier then writing a regular essay. But after writing the first one, it was apparent I didn’t like blogging! Nor do I plan to continue writing my blog after this class is over. It just isn’t me at all, I think blog 2 was the easiest and the best blog that I did. The Blogging assignments were definitely harder then I thought it would be. I do feel it was clear to me what was expected, in creating the blog each week. Blog four I felt was hard to complete, due to I just really didn’t have any good material to write.

2. Did the blog assignments, and the requirement to create a blog, relate to the class topics
and course objectives? Why or why not?

A. Yes, for the most part they did. You went over the material well in class, which in turn made
at least me feel that our blogging assignment match the course material that we were covering. I think you can implement critical thinking into any kind of writing style.

3. Did the non-text elements of the blog program contribute to your learning in this class? Did they get in the way? Or did they have no affect at all.

A. Not sure I understand the question here. I learned a great deal in this class about
myself, and how many times that I could of used critical thinking methods in certain situations, to better understand. I will try my best in the future to become a better critical thinker. I’m just not sure that writing the blog’s helped in my learning in this class. The open class debates made me think more critically about certain situations then the blogging assignments did.

Blog # 4 Is a picture worth a thousand words!!

Absolutely a picture is worth a thousand words. After looking or staring at any given picture for any length of time, each and everyone of us will have something to say about what we saw in that picture. Some of us will have seen the same thing or will have the same thing to say about the picture. But our conversation of what we saw in that picture may also differ from each other. If I look at a picture of the last supper It will probably mean something different, or I will see something different then when, let's say Bob or Ofer look at the same picture.

To me this is one of the meanings in which, the saying- a picture is worth a thousand words, is described. We all can see diffwerent kinds of pictures and describe them in our own words. Take any two people and ask them to describe any given picture with a hundered words, and they would not be the same words used to desribe the picture. Some people will be closer to a picture then other people. I'm sure therem are plenty of people who don't think a picture is worth a 1000 words but I do.

Blog # 3 Why do we believe in things are not or cannot be proven

First of all if you believe in something, then it doesn’t really have to be proven doe’s it! I think we all believe in something that we cannot prove is true. It could be true love, evolution, religion, life in space, heaven, ghosts, angels; I probably could go on and on here, I would bet that I already have mentioned something here, that ninety percent of us believe in and would argue for hours over.

It is only human nature to believe in things that cannot be proven, these topics give us hours of enjoyment debating with friends and peers over them. Most of us feel that if it cannot be proven that it doesn’t exist then it has to be true. Like my Bigfoot internet site a few weeks back, there is plenty of people that believe Bigfoot is real. I’ve heard the howling of them on tape, well then they must be real. (Kidding)

In my opinion if all of us only believed in those things that can be proven true, life would be very boring and not much fun at all. Our every day lives involves direct dialogue and beliefs with on another about topics that have not been totally proven to be true. What would we talk about or study about if we only did it with topics that have been proven. What if a topic was proven with out a shadow of a doubt, there would still be some of us that would argue it wasn’t true.

So what does being proven really mean to us? To some of us it may give us a peace of mind, to others probably not much. As I stated earlier it doesn’t matter much what is proven, cause there will always be people that will argue the findings.

(Blog # 2) I Thought I knew what was going on!

There has been many times in my life where I thought I knew what was going on, only to find out I didn't. Most recently my wedding a few weekends ago, but we will save that for another time. Many years ago while working for a cable T.V contractor, I used to cut concrete and asphalt, for the purpose of installing a cable television drop from one side of a street or driveway to the power side of a customers home. We would run a route each day that consisted of four to five jobs.

I remember this one day during the summer, it was about 110 degrees out and around one in the afternoon, I had finished my route and called my boss to see if he had anymore work for us to do. While I'm talking to him on the phone, and also trying to listen to my partner who was yelling at me from the cab of the truck, I was writing down an address for another street and driveway cut that needed to be done in North Phoenix. After getting off the pay phone (no cells then ) we proceeded to the address, unloaded all of our tools and got started, no one was home at the time, but we decided to at least get all of the outside work completed for installing cable television to yet another potential happy customer, so we thought. I started cutting the street open for placement of the cable, from the opposite side of the street, and my partner took the ladder and started routing and stapling cable around the house. The job went rather well I had finished cutting the street and the driveway, my partner had finishing stapling the cable to the house, so we both jumped on digging a trench through the new customers yard from the driveway up to where we had stapled the cable on the house.

A truck pulled up in front of the house, and I remember thinking to myself- COOL their home we can finish up the inside work now. This Man was coming unglued what the H&** were we doing to his yard and home. I explained to him we were installing his cable T.V. He yelled at me I NEVER ORDERED CABLE T.V. I said I have it right here isn't this **** 1st Pl. And he said no it's **** 1st wy. OOPS !!

We had spent almost three hours cutting and digging and stapling the wrong house, and we still had to go to the correct address, which was the next block over and do it again.

**Why did this happen, I'm sure it was because I didn't give my boss my complete attention. I was busy listening to another conversation that was being directed to me at the same time. What I should have done after my boss gave me the Address was read it back to him. Another thing I should have done was when we arrived and no one was home make a quick call and verify the address. That Day Sucked, but today I Laugh about it!

I believe both are true, technology has made us smarter and dumber. They say since the internet age that the average IQ has gone up ten points. This can probably be argued by many people. How many of us just don't have the time to pick up a book any longer, because were to busy playing on the computer. Technology has made it very easy for us to shop, get in the car and go to the store no way man, I can order it on line. Buy a new CD why, I can down load it of the Web, it goes on and on. I don't even have to have a friend anymore, I can get on line and play a game with someone I have never met. - Smarter or Dumber?

Technology is here to stay, it will not go away and is this bad? Sometimes I believe it is bad for our children, being a kid has changed drastically since I was a kid. We had three channels to watch, once the morning cartoones were through there was nothing else, it was time to go outside and play. Kids today they do not want to go out and play, as we did at their age. Video games has taken the place of playing catch, or riding our bikes. Is this bad- yes and no their not getting the physical exercise, but they are getting a mental workout. - Smarter or Dumber ?

Technology has made just about everything in our lives easier to complete or manage. In todays society we can drive down the road pick up our cell phone and call the house and tell the the oven to turn on. Is this lazyness, forgetfulness, or our we just lucky to be living in a time that POP Culture is at its best. I'm sitting in front of this computer writing this blog, hey I don't have to be a good speller anymore just get it close, I have SPELL CHECKER.- Smarter or Dumber?

I honestly don't have the answer for the question doe's technology make us smarter or dumber. I do know that it's a lot more entertaining, and it has made life easier, technology is going to just keep on getting more technical. So do we have to get smarter to be able to use it or keep up with it, not really the computer will teach us everything we need to know.
